A Poem of Unexpected Love

UNEXPECTED LOVE

Yes, this love was unexpected,
And we still keep saying, “Wow,”
For more than forty years had passed,
Yet a light remained — somehow?

And so —

We met for just a moment
On a summer day
We fondly spoke a word or two,
—But then I drove away!

Then I bemoaned, “How can I find her,
I have no number I can call?
I know no soul who knows her!”
It seemed hopeless, after all.

Then, the wheels were set in motion
We did not know why or how,
For God had plans we knew not of
That led from then ‘till now.

Yes, God had other plans for us
He quickly put in motion
“A match I made in heaven,” He said,
“A love of true devotion.”

So, in just two days a woman,
Asked if I would call;
She had a question about a song,
A song I knew not at all.

And in that conversation
I fondly mentioned I met YOU,
Yet had no contact information—
But the woman said, “I DO!”

So, in this way I found you,
And in just two days of sharing,
We rose in love, we were undone,
Our hearts we soon were bearing.

And our love for one another
Bloomed like a flower in the Spring;
It grew until we were engaged,
And it was sealed with a ring.

Now we will be joined as one
Before our family and our friends,
A story of God’s abiding love,
His love that never ends.
