REFLECTIONS
I look upon you, lying quietly in my arms; you are
slumbering peacefully, head resting against my heart.
I listen to you breathe each breath, slowly, deeply, evenly;
and all the world seems to be at rest about us.
Beyond our bed in the soft, dark blanket of the night, all is still,
though shortly I know I will hear the gentle stirring
of the early morning wind and the whispering of the leaves,
reminding me that the break of day will soon come.
And with the day we will rise—and do what we must
with the world about us, busy with many things;
but in the midst of the rush I will pause—and see you now,
quietly in my arms, head resting peacefully against my heart.
