Tom Fideler is a writer, photographer, and musician living in the Pacific Northwest in the greater Seattle region. He loves the depth and power of words and the creation of imagery. With regard to the written word, he is especially fond of poetry (most often free verse) because of the intensity that occurs in the interplay of ideas, images, and rhythm — all within an economy of words. In addition, he composes both vocal and instrumental music for piano, guitar, autoharp, and harmonica.
He owns a photography company, Color of Light, LLC, where he creates and sells images for real estate, commercial business, portraits, documentaries, and art forms. The goal of his photography is not to “shoot” a landscape scene or “capture” an image of a person or event, but rather to translate ideas and vision into images. Renowned photographer, Ansel Adams, observed that “… visualization [is] the entire emotional-mental process of creating a photograph, and as such, it is one of the most important concepts in photography. It includes the ability to anticipate the finished image before making the exposure.” 1
His father was an educator, book publisher, and photographer. It was he who imbued in Tom a deep love for both imagery and the power of the written word. But, he says, “It was the wooded hills, valleys, lakes, and streams around my childhood home that instilled in me an awareness and love of aesthetic qualities of the creation about us.”
Tom’s degree is in Behavioral Psychology, followed by several years of study at the Pacific School of Theology. In addition, he is certified through the University of Toronto (Ontario Institute for Studies in Education), as an instructor for English as a Second or Foreign Language. 2 His ESL/EFL focus is adults at all levels of competency. He am dedicated to helping ESL learners become accomplished in speaking, reading, and writing the English language. For more information about my ESL/EFL tutoring and instruction, please click here.
Tom’s earlier career centered in the aerospace industry as a leadership and organizational design consultant, leadership instructor, and distance learning manager. In the latter capacity, he helped produce live, business education television broadcasts to the UK, Japan, China, and Australia.
Tom closes with this: “Most essentially, I am a Christian. I am a follower of Jesus and a believer in showing kindness and compassion to all. Here are some of Jesus’ words, which are among the most precious to me: ‘Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.'” 3
